Apple iPad Pro 2021
Apple has launched the iPad Pro 2021 model. There are many upgrades over the last year's model. The changes are huge in terms of performance, display, Camera, port connectivity support, and cellular modem. This time all these changes make the iPad Pro 2021 model a true upgrade over its predecessor.
iPad Pro 2021 Processor
The new iPad Pro 2021 model comes with M1 Chip that is already used in the M1 Macs Laptops. The M1 Chip was designed for the Apple Macs, but it's also getting to the iPad Pro lineup. It is really interesting to see that, Apple didn't make an X or Z variant of the Apple A14 Bionic chip that is used in their iPhones. The company directly brought their M1 Chips to their iPad Pro line-up.
The performance of M1 Chip is 50% faster in CPU workload and 40% faster in GPU workload than its previous iPad Pro with the A14Z Chipset.
The M1 Chip has 8 core for the CPU and 8 core for the GPU. It is to be noted that the M1 Chip outperforms the current Windows Laptops. This is just insane for the Chip that delivers high-performance speed in a small form factor.
The M1 chip is based on ARM architecture while the Windows Laptops CPU is based on x86 architecture and is larger than the ARM processors. This was the performance from iPad Pro 2021 with M1 Chip and now let's talk about its display with revolutionary technology.
iPad Pro 2021 Display
The iPad Pro 2021 has a revolutionary display technology that can give users better image quality and a higher contrast ratio than the traditional IPS displays with 120HZ refresh rate pro-motion.
The display on iPad Pro 2021 uses a Mini LED Display technology. Mini LEDs can get very bright and at the same time get very dim. It is very close to the AMOLED Display technology. But the issue with AMOLED Display is that they get screen burn after one or two years if brightness levels are set too high. The display gets a ghost or shadow effect when it gets burnt. But with Mini LEDs, this problem can get solved and users won't have to worry about screen burn or ghost or shadow effect when they keep their brightness levels set to high. Here is to keep in mind that it's close to the AMOLED Display technology not as good as AMOLED Displays. So in the near future, the Mini LED technology is going to get better.
Here are the display specifications for both 11inch and 12.9inch model
- 11-inch (2388 x 1668 pixels): Liquid Retina LED-backlit display with P3 Color Gamut, 600 nits brightness, 264 PPI
The display on the 11inch model uses the last-gen Liquid Retina LED display and not the Mini LED Display. Mini LED Display is exclusive to the 12.9inch model. But this model is good for people who don't want savvy tech displays and it also helps in keeping the price low.
- 12.9-inch (2732 x 2048pixels): Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED backlit display with P3 Color Gamut, 600 nits brightness, 1000 nits max full-screen brightness; 1600 nits peak brightness (HDR), 264 PPI
The display used on this 12.9inch model uses the same Mac display that has XDR. But this one also comes with something more. 12.9inch model has the Mini LED tech which improves the image quality and gives a higher contrast ratio. This is good for people who want to spend a little more to get a higher quality display. It is mainly for professionals who want portable machines for their work. Normal users can also get this variant if they care more about Display Quality and Watching Content than saving money.
iPad Pro 2021 Cameras
Cameras on the iPad Pro 2021 have been slightly upgraded. The front camera has bumped to a 12MP Superwide camera from an ordinary 7MP true depth camera. The 12MP true tone depth camera has a Superwide viewing angle with artificial intelligence built-in to face the camera towards the subject without touching the iPad. Subject tracking and tilting is an artificial intelligence that can help in some manner and it also crops in automatically depending on how many people or subjects are there to fit within the frame.
Coming to the back camera, the iPad Pro 2021 has a 12MP Primary Shooter and a 10MP Ultrawide Camera along with a LiDAR sensor for Argumental Reality (AR) or 3D Workloads. The ISP on M1 Chip will boost the Camera Performance to give users a better image quality. The LiDAR sensor can be used for AR and Documents scans and also as a depth sensor for the bokeh effect on captured images. Overall the camera performance on iPad Pro 2021 is great.
iPad Pro 2021 Ports Connectivity
There is a huge change to the port connectivity for the USB Type C. This time Apple has integrated Thunderbolt support and USB 4 interface to the Type C Connector Port. This is another biggest change with the iPad Pro 2021. Now users can connect multiple storage devices as well as an external monitor. It can even have higher data transmission when connected to Mac or PC as ethernet.
As per the thunderbolt specifications, it can transfer data at the speed of 40GBPS which is three times faster than the traditional 10GBPS USB Type C. Thunderbolt on an iPad is so much on the go.
There is space available to connect other accessories like Apple Pencil or Magic Keyboard.
iPad Pro 2021 Network and modem
The new iPad Pro 2021 has support for mm-wave 5G Connectivity for high-speed internet. It also supports WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. There are both models available though, the WiFi-only model and the Cellular model. The mm-wave 5G modem iPad Pro model will only be available for the United States because as of now it's the only place where 5G is served. The other countries are yet to be available for 5G Network Connectivity.
